Whetstone
Writing tools that make you a better writer and never write for you. A Hemingway-style pass inside the block editor, and a habit report over time.
Most writing plugins write for you. Whetstone does not. It reads what you wrote, marks what is worth a second look, and says why — in plain words. It never suggests replacement text and it never calls out to an AI service. Nothing leaves your site.
In the block editor, the Whetstone sidebar shows:
Inside Whetstone
Reading grade (Flesch-Kincaid) against the target you set, plus Flesch reading ease and reading time.
Long and very long sentences , counted in words you set.
Passive voice — a form of "to be" with a past participle, including the common irregular ones ("was written", "were never told"). When the doer is named after "by", Whetstone says so.
Adverbs ending in -ly, with an allow-list so "only", "family", "reply" and "early" are left alone.
Hedges and fillers — just, really, very, quite, I think, sort of.
Weak openers — "There are…", "It was…", "So…".
Repeated words within a window you set.
Jargon and clichés — a built-in list plus your own house list.

Asked first
Does it rewrite my sentences?
No. Whetstone never writes a word. It says what it noticed and why; what to do about it is yours.
Does it use AI or send my writing anywhere?
No. All the checks run in your browser and on your own server, with fixed English rules.
Why is a quotation not marked?
A quotation is somebody else's words. Whetstone skips quote blocks and anything inside quotation marks.
Which languages?
English only.
What happens when I delete the plugin?
Its settings and the numbers stored on each post are removed. Your posts are untouched.
